It's September already Longhorns! Being back at school with all of your wonderful faces has been the best. For my kindergarten, first, and second grade students - be on the lookout for Pippa the Pixie! This naughty little fairy is determined to cause trouble in the library, but my students have assured me that they can teach her the library rules. I hope they're right! Here are the messages she left us over LaborDday weekend.... pippa_intro.mp3 pippa deal pippa clues For my older students, we are working on creating complex, unique characters for the game we will be playing this year - Adventures in the Enchanted library. These characters will be using their abilities to practice library skills and defeat enemies of the library! Ask your kiddos about their character - they should be done creating them in the next couple of weeks. Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year everyone - and to the Enchanted Library! May many wonderful adventures await you both here in the library and in the books that you check out.

Summer is almost here! That means all the thousands of books that belong in the library need to make their way home. If you are missing any books, please find and return them as soon as possible. If a book is well and truly lost, you can pay the fine for it. Every student with a clear account will get to pick a prize from the library prize room!
Hello Longhorns! Welcome back from Spring Break - I hope you had a wonderful time. Exciting news here - next week I am hosting a picture book swap/sale. Flyers will be going home this week. In the mornings from 8-8:20 on March 27-31, students can come swap one book from home for two different ones, or they can purchase books for just $.25 each (exact change only). I'm excited to find good homes for the books that don't have space on our shelves anymore - and there is nowhere I'd rather have them go than with my amazing students.
How is February almost over already! Between the snow days and conferences, it really is flying by. Thank you to those who stopped in the library to say hi during conferences - it's always wonderful to chat with the parents of our incredible students. Nothing we do would be possible without your love and support.
I just finished up making our February Newsletter, so keep an eye out for that coming home in the next week or so. And in case it gets swallowed by your students backpack, I'll post it here for you too. Hang in there everyone. Spring break and warmer weather is just around the corner! We've got more new books - check out the unboxing videos to see what they are! We've had a great January - how is it already February? Don't let the cold get you down or bored - make sure you always have a good book to keep you busy. If you can't be on a sunny beach, you could at least read about one! Keep an eye out - videos of students giving book recommendations should be coming soon. Keep reading those books my frriends - and make sure you return them when you're done :) It feels so good to be back in school with these amazing students. The break was fantastic, but I definitely was starting to miss this place. I'm very excited for this semester - we've got new play areas set up for the younger classes. The older classes will be learning about library organization and will be creating more projects in the Makerspace - including using our 3D printer! The new books from the unboxing videos in December are also ready to be checked out and enjoyed. It's a great day - and great year - to be a Longhorn. Thanks to the amazing Yuri Drubinky, our 3d printer is up and running! He came over today and gave me the low down on how to run things and some good programs to use. Hopefully next semester students will be able to start designing and printing projects!
The Longhorn Youtube Channel is up and running. Over the past week, I worked with several students to record unboxing videos where we reveal and discuss new books to the library. Be sure to check them out - and if you see the kids, let them know what a great job they did! Hopefully more videos will be coming soon.
Longhorn Library Youtube Channel This week, after over a year of work and planning, we finally started to use the Longhorn Makerspaces! Students engage in critical thinking and problem solving while building real-world projects. There is definitely going to be a learning curve as we figure out how to manage the makerspaces most efficiently, but I am so excited to see the final products, and I am already proud of how well the students are using their problem solving and communication skills during this time. It's been wonderful watching them come to life with passion and excitement. They are hard workers with brilliant ideas - ideas that the world deserves to see and hear!
